It's been a cold and snowy January and February. We've had three sunny days total for the last two weeks. Instead of sun we've had snow nearly everyday. (Great skiing if anyone wants to visit!) So, for a little relief Steve and I spent a few days in Oahu. To go from single digits to the eighties was heavenly...not to mention seeing colors again, instead of variations of white and gray.
While we were there, we enjoyed taking a few classes to learn some of the native arts. We are now semi-proficient in making leis and poi balls, ukulele playing, and hula dancing. Okay, semi-proficient is an exaggeration for me, since the only thing I mastered was lei making. I can also make the poi balls, but when I try to swing them all I do is hit myself in the head. The ukulele was fun, but if you tried to dance the Hukilai while I accompanied, it might take thirty minutes. I'm not even going to tell you how bad I was at the hula. I quickly decided to spare my husband the embarrassment and found the video camera instead; so I could embarrass him in another way.
